PHYSIOTHERAPY FOR HEADACHE
How does Physiotherapy help with headache?
We can diagnose the cause of the headache to determine the best treatment. Sometimes, joints of the upper spine can refer headache to the skull region. This is called cervicogenic headache and is treated by targeted physiotherapy.
Headache and migraine can be debilitating. There are many types and causes of headache. Cervicogenic headache is referred from spinal segments C1-3 and is one of the types of headache that is responsive to physiotherapy treatment.
Assessment involves evaluating the joints, muscles, and nerves of the spine to determine the location of the problem. Once identified, this can be treated using manual therapy (hands on treatment). For long term results, its important to identify the contributing factors that placed strain on these segments in the first place - often this is due to deficiencies in motor control that require specific exercise to prevent recurrence.
